Books to Transform Your Life

Whatever you want to change or improve post-lockdown, there’s a book to help you do it. From running to relaxation, nutrition to yoga, there seems to be a book for absolutely everything.

With Read a Book Day taking place on the 6th September, we thought we’d research the latest and best fitness books on the market and give you our favourite top 5 books to read right now.

Here are our best picks that will help you achieve your health, wellbeing and fitness goals without a lot of stress…

119 Days to Go: How to Train for and Smash Your First Marathon

Chris Evans

Essential reading for anyone planning to run a marathon. Virgin Radio presenter, and marathon and ultramarathon runner, Chris Evans’ down-to-earth and hugely motivating guide takes you through 119 days of physical and mental preparation to get you ready for the challenge of running a marathon.

He breaks down how we can all get ourselves off our lockdown sofas, up on our feet and onto that starting line. And all in just 119 days! A fantastic guide for everyone at any time.

Breath: The New Science of a Lost Art

James Nestor

This book has been one of the most talked about books this summer. A fantastic account of how making minor changes to the way we breathe could have staggering benefits for health and wellbeing.

Well researched and interesting, I couldn’t stop reading this recently and I will be referring back to it time and time again. Who would have thought something as simple as changing the way we breathe could be so revolutionary for our health? I’ll never breathe the same way again.

Feel Better In 5: Your Daily Plan to Feel Great for Life

Dr Rangan Chatterjee

One of the most recognisable GPs, Dr Rangan Chatterjee has 20 years of experience and a host of successful books, Podcasts and TV shows. His latest book builds on the foundations of his 4 Pillar Plan with a guide to rejuvenation in manageable five minute bursts. With an emphasis on better health as a journey rather than a destination, ‘Feel Better in 5’ is a plan for improved physical and mental wellbeing. This book was a really easy to read guide to changing your lifestyle and creating new habits,…and in just 5 minutes!

STRETCH: 7 daily movements to set your body free

Roger Frampton

Do you ever wake up in the morning with aches and pains? Due to the sedentary nature of modern life, we all tend to have muscles and joints that slowly tighten over the years. In STRETCH, coach Roger Frampton explains that flexibility and mobility should really be done daily, on waking up and before you sleep. Combining light exercises, gentle twists and stretches, STRETCH is a daily programme of seven movements to improve overall wellbeing and fight the negative effects of a sedentary lifestyle.

This book has definitely made me rethink my workouts and I’ll be talking to the Gym Instructors at China Fleet about how I can incorporate stretches more into my workout routines from now on.

So why not treat yourself to a new book this September and give your healthy lifestyle a kick start. And, you can always speak to our Gym and Exercise Instructors for any fitness tips and advice…they’re always happy to help, or book one of our Gym Journeys – free to all members.
