Christmas Cheer Shipped To HMS Tamar

HMS TAMAR is affiliated with the China Fleet Trust, the military charity who own the China Fleet Country Club, and with the County of Cornwall and the City of Truro.

Royal Navy Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) HMS Tamar is preparing to spend her fourth Christmas away from home waters, patrolling the Far East alongside her sister ship HMS Spey, since leaving the UK in September 2021.

During her five-year mission in the Indo-Pacific region, the Cornwall affiliated warship has operated with other partner nations and Navies; recently making a mercy dash across the Pacific to Samoa and assisted in the recovery of personnel and equipment from the stricken New Zealand Ship, HMNZS Manawanui that sank after hitting a reef.

In the build up to Christmas, Cornwall Council have once again organised a handover of Cornish produce and merchandise at County Hall in Truro, donated by businesses across the county.

There to receive the goods and look after the shipment for onward freight was Lieutenant Justine Lambert, from HMS Tamar, who will be rejoining the Ship soon after her leave.

“I’ve been with HMS Tamar for just over a year, and this gesture will make all the difference to those onboard,” said Justine.

“It brings a small slice of home into our lives whilst we are away in the Indo-Pacific, we are very proud to fly that flag for Cornwall. These little luxuries will be fantastic over Christmas, I don’t think there will be much left come the New Year.

“All these goods, Tea, Cider and Biscuits with their connections with Cornwall don’t go unnoticed, it really means a lot to know people are thinking of us so on the other side of the world, it will make Christmas absolutely fabulous for us.”

Councillor Pauline Giles, Chairperson of Cornwall County Council thanked all the people who had added to the shipment from the County and said it was a special moment that they could all be proud of.

“HMS Tamar will be a long way from home this Christmas and we all want to be with our families at this time of year, it’s the one time you can sit down and relax, so I think anything that reminds them of home and brings a little bit of cheer to their busy duties, is worth it.

“We thank all these businesses who’ve been so generous to give their produce and merchandise to HMS Tamar, it’s a great showroom for Cornwall so It’s a win-win for all.”
