Weddings Around The World

Weddings are of course a celebration of love between couples. It is a day when friends and family come together and watch two people dedicate their love and life to each other.

In any culture, weddings are often a time for celebration, family, and tradition — but these things can look very different from one culture to the next.

In the Uk it is traditional to see the bride toss her bouquet over her shoulder into a jumping crowd of single hopefuls. Travel to Germany however and you may find couples sawing a giant log in half to show the bride and groom’s ability to work together and face the obstacles that they may come across.

Attend nuptials in Nigeria and you could end up showering the bride in cash!  Perhaps enough to pay for the wedding would be good!

In Fiji, men apparently have to find an unusual gift before asking for the hand of their beloved: the groom must present his father-in-law with a whale’s tooth!

The amount people spend on weddings also vary throughout the world with the United Emirates spending eye watering £100,000’s. Of course, if you’re a member of the British Royal family there’s no limit to the cost or size. At Prince Harry and Megan’s wedding last year, they had 600 people attend the service and 2,640 invited to the Windsor Castle grounds!

However, it doesn’t matter how you do it, it’s love that is the overriding connection for us all. If you’re getting married, perhaps you could start your own new traditions?
