Wedding News,Views & Trends for 2020

This week, we interviewed our talented Wedding Coordinator Lauren Lyons to get an insight into what’s hot, what’s not and find out about some of the best weddings of 2019 at the Club.

So, Lauren, first of all, what does a Wedding Coordinator do at China Fleet?

“Well, basically, I’m part of a larger team –  supported by the Executive Head Chef, Chefs, waiting and support staff.  Together we look after the weddings taking place at China Fleet from the very first show-around of the Club right through to their evening reception; we’re with them every step of the way.”

Have you got any favourite recent weddings?

“I think one of my favourites would be last year’s Winter Wedding.  It was a snowy Christmas wedding (artificial snow!) and looked so magical.  We’ve also had a Halloween Wedding where guests dressed in gruesome fancy dress for the evening reception and a beautiful Indian wedding with lots of colour and vibrancy.  Most of our wedding couples opt for a traditional style and I love all of them, traditional, unusual, winter or summer – each of them is special.”

What aspect of organising weddings do you like most?

“Without a doubt, it’s getting to know the couple.  I ensure we build a great relationship right from the initial meeting. I am always here for them, no matter how often I am needed, right up to the wedding and throughout the wedding itself.  I end up feeling part of the family – one bride recently took time out of her special day to find and thank me for everything I did, she tracked me down in her wedding dress! I felt really touched that she had her dream day.”

What trends do you think are going to be popular in 2020?

“Flower Walls – which are great for photographs – are becoming more popular and I expect to see more of these next year.

Green – another recent move is towards more eco-friendly weddings where wedding couples recycle or reuse unusual accessories.  In addition, we always encourage biodegradable paper confetti and we ask guests not to use plastic sprinkles.

Rose Gold – a key colour accessory that’s still proving popular – it always looks so pretty and is very popular for table decorations.

Extending the wedding – we’re seeing more wedding guests making a mini holiday out of a wedding and staying for a few days before or after.  All our hotel guests can enjoy full use of the health club facilities including the swimming pools and Aqua Spa so it makes a great little break.”

What advice would you give someone who’s planning a wedding?

“Do your research!  Research venues, the facilities they offer, independent reviews and above all, ensure you visit a shortlist of venues on a ‘business as usual’ day so you can see what it’s like, how the staff interact etc.”

How can couples find out about China Fleet weddings?

“You can contact me for a show-around at any time and see what we have to offer and experience it first hand. You can also come along to our very popular Wedding Fairs to see what a wedding would look like here.  We showcase our Atlantic Suite and Ceremony Room, have live music and lots of staff on hand so you can get a real feel for the Club and find out just why we’re so popular for weddings.  Our next one is Sunday 23rd February 2020 11am – 3pm with free entry and free parking.

We’re delighted to be the winners of the ‘South West Wedding Venue of the Year 2019’ for all our hard work and great facilities here. I’m so proud to be part of a great venue and team.”

Thanks Lauren!

See you next week & hope to see you at our Wedding Fair in February!
