As I write this, the sun is shining (almost) and thoughts of a warm spring come to mind – after all, we do seem to be blessed with fantastic spring weather in Cornwall. I hope I’ve not jinxed it, but I do look forward to getting outside to enjoy our lovely county this month.
With winter, hopefully, a distant memory, what’s the best way to dust off the cobwebs and start getting fit in time for summer?
At China Fleet Country Club, we’re very lucky to be surrounded by some great experts from food to fitness, golf to wellbeing. Our personal trainers suggest the best way to get fit is to do something which you enjoy. After all, there’s no point in starting a new fitness class or gym routine if you don’t enjoy it, as you probably won’t keep it up.
A fun round of tennis or badminton with friends or family, a round of golf or a walk on our nature trail discovering our wildlife, are all good ways to boost your fitness levels and have fun.
Plus, there are lots of low impact sports which can help get you fit too and increase your flexibility. Swimming is well-known to be an excellent all-rounder for fitness.
In addition, there are lots we can do that isn’t a traditional exercise. Simply parking the car a bit further away from the club, taking the stairs instead of the lift or a quick 20 minute stroll at lunchtime all adds to your fitness.
At the same time, you could give your diet an overhaul too – ensuring that you eat a well-balanced diet full of plenty of fruit and vegetables. Smoothies, soups and healthy snacks are great ways to boost your vitamin intake without too much hassle. Protein-rich snacks and smoothies are great after a workout.
Aside from the obvious benefits to our health, exercise is also great for your wellbeing and even your immune system. However, it’s that feel-good-factor that I enjoy. With endorphins naturally making us feel more positive, rejuvenated and raring to go, it seems putting a spring in your step this March may be easier than we think. All we need now is some sunshine!
