5 Stress-Busting Tips

Stressed?  Well, you are not alone.  Apparently, 85% of adults in the UK experience stress regularly, however it’s crucial to find easy solutions to manage it.

Wednesday 6th November is National Stress Awareness Day – part of an annual campaign to promote stress prevention.

But what exactly is stress and why is it important? Stress is a response to demands on the body and life, a response to crisis and fears. If stress gets overwhelming it can cause other mental health problems, emotional exhaustion and physical illness and can impact on work, relationships, families, and every aspect of life.

Here at China Fleet, we’ve lots of ways to combat stress from exercise and relaxation to quiet-time and fun. Our exercise classes for all abilities and ages are also perfect to connect with others, make friendships and get vital support.

Here are our top 5 Stress-Busting tips…

1. Be active

Exercise won’t make your stress disappear, but it will reduce some of the emotional intensity that you’re feeling, clearing your thoughts and letting you deal with your problems more calmly. You can join China Fleet as an individual, couple, family or even through your employment with our special Business and Corporate Memberships.

2. Connect with people

A good support network of colleagues, friends and family can ease your troubles and help you see things in a different way.  The activities we do with friends help us relax. We often have a good laugh with them, which is an excellent stress reliever.

3. Have some ‘me time’

Here in the UK, we work the longest hours in Europe, meaning we often don’t spend enough time doing things we really enjoy. We all need to take some time for socialising, relaxation or exercise.  Try setting aside a couple of nights a week for some quality “me time” away from work – perhaps a quiet swim or some time in the China Fleet Aqua Spa.

4. Challenge yourself

Setting yourself goals and challenges helps build confidence – try a new sport or exercise routine. Our qualified Gym Instructors can help you with goal-setting – try one of our 9 Gym Journeys to get you motivated – we’ve something for everyone.

5. Avoid unhealthy habits

Don’t rely on alcohol, smoking and caffeine as your ways of coping. In the long term, these crutches won’t solve your problems. They’ll just create new ones. Instead, create new healthy habits such as a new exercise class (we’ve over 95 a week to choose from!) or introducing a better diet.

Whatever you do, start with small steps today to help keep stress at bay.

See you next week & hope to see you at the Club soon,
