Manoir Du Hilguy

Brittany

The extreme western coast of Brittany is France's equivalent to Lands End. It is surrounded on three sides by sea, with sandy coves, rocky headlands and undulating hills. Geographically, its coastline is very much like that of Cornwall, though more southerly and enjoying better weather. Le Manoir du Hilguy stands at the bend of a small valley, near the village of Plogastel St.Germain - one of the most picturesque corners of this area. As far back as the Middle Ages this was the site of the Castle of Hilguy. In less egalitarian times than today the feudal lords of Hilguy had the right to exercise high justice - the power of life and death.

Local Attractions

Brittany has ten 18-hole golf courses and six 9-hole courses. Watersports are very popular along the coast, especially scuba diving; sailing; surfing; windsurfing; water-skiing and angling. Riding stables can be found 7 miles away. Bénodet is an attractive seaside village with white sandy beaches. This is a good centre for sea and land excursions, cycling and walking. South-west of Quimper, Pont l'Abbé has a superb shopping centre, a fascinating market and many fine castles, museums and churches.
